What’s the Common Thread in Product, Service and Life Design?

Posted by Plish on February 20, 2022

Every design is filled with questions: Why is this here?  What is its purpose?  What will a person experience when they encounter this product or service?

Plants and animals in nature don’t have extras. They have a wonderful balance of what is needed to give them a competitive chance.

Same thing with successful products/services of all types. Too many features and things can get confusing. Not enough and people look for workarounds.

But, it’s not simply about the number of features. It’s about their necessity. Disruptive innovations often are stripped down versions of more feature filled products. It’s about what people need in the moment, what they can handle.

It’s like that in our lives as well. What are we doing? What is the purpose of something in my life? What experience is it bringing me?

Whether it’s a product, service or our lives

Pay attention

Have Empathy

Ask what experience you want

Traditions Begin and End With Innovative Design

Posted by Plish on February 18, 2022

Tradition is a powerful concept.

It carries a regalness, an authority. “It’s the way we’ve done it.”

It’s the path of trusted least resistance. It wont get us in trouble.

But, as Chef Lidia Bastianich reminds us, today’s innovation is tomorrow’s Tradition. Every tradition started somewhere.

Every innovation started with people complaining, mocking, ignoring the innovation.

Sure, some people, the early adopters, got behind the innovation, but they were a minority.

The majority were clinging to Tradition. Some of those didn’t even know why, other than it was Tradition so they believed it”s supposed to be held on to… tightly.

Innovations make people question,”Is this the best way?”

That’s a good thing- prompting questions. It helps solidify beliefs.

All Traditions were once innovations.

Start a new Tradition today.
